James E. McGrory, MD
Board-CertifiedOrthopaedic Surgeon

Dr. McGrory sees patients at our main office in Columbus, as well as the offices in LaGrange, Albany, and Dothan, Alabama.
Dr. McGrory is one of many surgeons working at The Hughston Clinic, in Columbus, Georgia. This is a large orthopaedic surgery clinic providing a wide range of musculoskeletal services, including non-operative treatment of orthopaedic conditions, surgical procedures, physical therapy, and imaging services such as xrays and MRI scans. The Hughston Clinic physicians are also proud owners of a new state of the art hospital across the river in nearby Phenix City, Alabama. This is a newly built hospital with all private rooms, specializing in orthopaedic surgery, with friendly and compassionate staff, and very high patient satisfaction scores.
A non-operative approach is emphasized, including treatment modalities such as medications, joint injections, physical therapy, and nutritional supplementation. Only when these methods fail, or pain is severe, is surgery recommended.
It is only through compassion and listening that patient problems can be identified and treated. Most of the time a patient’s condition can be diagnosed by carefully listening to the patient’s complaints. This takes time, and Dr. McGrory devotes as much time as is necessary to fully evaluate each patient. A “family test” is used, whereby each patient is treated just as one would want a family member to be treated. Dr. William Mayo once said, “The best interest of the patient is the only interest to be considered.” Dr. McGrory strongly believes in this ideal.
